blogger spotlight: coffee beans + bobby pins

This week's blogger spotlight is featuring the lovely Amy of Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins.  I actually discovered Amy's blog through another one of my favorite blogs- Emily Gemma of The Sweetest Thing.  And, I was so thrilled to have found it!

One of my favorite things about Amy's blog is that she has amazing taste, with an amazing price tag.  You all know that I am a HUGE advocate of trying to save on seasonal trends, and splurging on classic and timeless pieces.

Keep reading to find out more about the gorgeous Amy of Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins!  Be sure to stop by her blog, too, and give her some love!

WUYW:  Of all of your posts, which outfit or feature has been your absolute favorite thus far?
I would have to say my favorite outfit ever was this one

WUYW:  Why would you consider this your best post to date?

I just love the combo of girly details. The lace, floral and polka dot are all so girly, but not overly so. It was also my bday dinner at my favorite place in Ohio, so now that we’re in NC, it has a special place in my heart!

WUYW:  How/why/when did you decide to start a fashion blog?

My husband was a medical student and was always at the hospital or studying (now he’s always working as a resident). I have a lot of free time to myself and I had been following blogs for about two years when I thought to myself “hey, I have lots of clothes and time, I should totes do this. I could showcase affordable looks for everyday women.”  I ran the idea by my best friend and Mr. and they were so supportive. I started about a week later.

WUYW:  What was your biggest hesitation regarding starting a blog, and how did you overcome that hesitation?

I think the biggest hesitation is A. time and B. embarrassment. While having a blog does take a considerable amount of time, I always tell myself when it’s not fun anymore, Ill stop. It’s important for something you love to never feel like an obligation. As for B, I still get embarrassed sometimes telling new people I meet about my blog. I never want to look vain. I have any body concerns that the next gal does and getting my picture taken in public is not my favorite thing, but the amount of support the blogging community shows to me is amazing and it always makes me happy that I do it.

WUYW:  What would be your biggest piece of advice for others who are just starting a blog?

a. Build Relationships and network with other bloggers. Even in the short time I’ve been doing this, I feel like I’ve made some great blogging friends (Shannon included!).
b. Don’t worry about the numbers. If you love what you do (which I do!), the numbers will come because people will genuinely like to hear what you’re saying.
c. Use social media. Why? Because it’s fun to follow IG and Facebook, so why not use it to your advantage? < come follow me while you’re at it >

WUYW:  What do you do for a living?

In Ohio, I worked for a nonprofit that served DD individuals. However, I am still job searching in North Carolina. I’d like to find something in PR (my undergrad) or public administration (my masters)

WUYW:  How would you describe your style?

Sporadic. I have always loved clothing/accessories. Although we’ve all had those “I have nothing to wear” moments, getting dressed is such a fun way to determine who you’ll be for the day or night. Although I gravitate more towards classic/feminine looks, sometimes it’s so fun to try on a new style like rock, tomboyish, or boho for the night.

WUYW:  If you could only save one item from your closet (heaven forbid), what item would it be?
My Prada coat or my black blazer. Both classic pieces.

WUYW:  Who or what is currently influencing your style the most?

I love Lauren Conrad, everything she puts on seems so wearable and real. Olivia Palermo is another gal with some great threads, and of course, who can forget the classic like Jackie O or Audrey? Honestly, I love looking at magazines and celebrities for inspiration, but the true places I turn to are Pinterest or my blogroll. I love seeing how different women wear the same or similar pieces that are actually affordable for us non-celebs. That’s the great thing about blogging- everyone is such an inspiration whether they realize it or not.

WUYW:  If you could trade closets with anyone, who would it be with?

Lauren Conrad or Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere. My friends are also pretty fashionable!
