what i wore: stars + leather + cobalt

Blouse: NY & Co (unfortunately no longer available- similar here) | Leather Peplum: Tinley Road | Shorts: Ellison (similar here) | Tights: Target | Shoes: SheInside |  Sunnies: Similar Here | Rings: David Yurman and BaubleBar

This outfit came about after a night of playing dress up in my closet.  It really isn't something that I would normally pair together, but once I had it on I loved it. This top is great because it is on trend with black and white for spring, and because it reminds me of an Equiment blouse for much, much cheaper!

what i wore: chambray + denim

Leopard Coat: Asos | Chambray Button Up: Forever 21 (similar)| Destructed Skinnies: Forever 21 | Shoes: Zara | Necklace: From my mother in law for Valentine's Day! | Sunnies: Similar Here | Arm Candy: Citizen Watch, David Yurman 1, 2, and 3, and Candylinx Silver Spike Bracelet c/o (similar here) | Rings: David Yurman and BaubleBar

I have been on a major hunt for some cute destructed skinny jeans- but I had a problem paying over $50 for a pair.  Don't get me wrong, I have been wearing them daily since buying them, but I just couldn't wrap my head around buying expensive ripped jeans.  Another case of Forever 21 saving the day!  They are a perfect fit and have distressing in all of the right places! Again, I really love mixing high end, timeless pieces with inexpensive trendy pieces.

Also- my first time to rock the Texas Tuxedo AND my new haircut.  I appreciate all of the input from the readers, and somehow it gave me the push to go through with it.  Good thing, because I absolutely LOVE it :)

blogger spotlight: glitter + gingham

This week's blogger spotlight is featuring the darling Shelby Skaggs of Glitter & Gingham. Although she is from Kentucky, she currently lives in Georgia while she is wrapping up her master's degree, working at J.Crew Factory, and being a personal style blogger.  You know I love other southern bloggers, so I was so excited when Shelby agreed to interview for WUYW.  There is always something whimsical about Shelby's outfits, girl- next- door looks, and a jewelry collection that I seriously envy! Check out her interview below and make sure to stop by her blog and check her out!!

WUYW: Of all of your posts, which outfit or feature has been your absolute favorite thus far?

Oh goodness, I am way too indecisive to answer this question ;) But I guess if I had to pick a favorite, I think it would be my “mostly maxi” post. I love stumbling upon pieces that are good to my wallet, while looking much nicer than their price tag. It is a darn good feeling knowing you don’t have to spend a lot of money to put together an outfit. Another thing I love? Mixing high and low pieces, the Lulu Frost necklace I wore in this post was a Christmas gift and the perfect addition to a rather cheap outfit. This post encompasses all of those things, while showing who I am at the same time.

WUYW: Why would you consider this your best post to date?

I don’t know if I would say it is my best post by any means, but for some reason I adore it! My best post, according to my amazing readers, would have to be “the shirt” post. If I had to guess why they think this would be considered my “best” post to date is because it shows the versatility of a shirt that is covered in sequins, and makes the piece suitable for every day wear. But that is just a wild guess, for all I know it could just be aesthetically pleasing ;)

WUYW:  How/why/when did you decide to start a fashion blog?

It was something I thought about doing after I moved down to Georgia, which was over a year and a half ago. I was quickly becoming more and more obsessed with reading a rather embarrassingly large amount of other fashion blogs, and I was so inspired by all of the lovely ladies who have paved the way in this fashion blogosphere. I tried to give it a go with two amazing friends of mine, but it ended up being too hard to maintain since none of us lived in the same city. After a few months of contemplating, and encouragement from family and friends I decided to take the plunge to start one up on my own!

WUYW:What was your biggest hesitation regarding starting a blog, and how did you overcome that hesitation?

There were actually several hestitations I had before starting Glitter & Gingham. If I am being honest, the first one had to do with vast amount of fashion blogs that were already out there. While I was so insprided by all of the existing blogs out there, it felt a little like I was jumping on the bandwagon. I finally got over the fear of being a carbon copy to the rest of the blogs out there. I knew that my blog was not going to be the same as the other preexisting blogs; each and every person has their own style and own creative ideas, and I knew I could channel my own into Glitter & Gingham to showcase who I am through my personal style. My second hesitation dealt with the fact I wanted most of my posts to be outfit shots. I also knew that I didn’t want to rely on others to take them for me. Everyone has hectic schedules, and I didn’t want to be a burden to anyone else who was kind enough to take pictures for me. Luckily, I have family and friends that are gracious enough to shoot some pictures for me when they have the time. There are those times when they aren’t around, or don’t have time- enter my handy dandy tripod. Trust me, I definitely feel a little silly standing in front of a tripod to take my outfit shots, but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do ;)

WUYW:What would be your biggest piece of advice for others who are just starting a blog?

This whole blogging world can be a little intimidating at times, but being true to myself in the content I post allows me to know that at the end of the day I am showing all of my readers who I truly am. So my advice for fellow bloggers or those thinking of starting their own blog is to be true to yourself, set goals for yourself and your blog, have fun blogging, share your inspiration with your readers, and let who you are shine through your posts.

WUYW:  What do you do for a living?

Right now I am finishing up my last semester of my Masters in Business. In the meantime I work for my school’s business department as a Grad Assistant, and I am a sales associate at a J. Crew Factory store.

WUYW: How would you describe your style?
Surprisingly, this might be the hardest question of all, mostly because my style is totally contingent upon my mood that day. However, there are always classic and girly influences in my day-to-day style. I like to have fun when I’m putting outfits together, and I take inspiration as it comes. They say variety is the spice of life, right?! I get inspiration from everywhere around me, so there is no telling what might influence my next look!

WUYW: If you could only save one item from your closet (heaven forbid), what item would it be?

Well anyone that knows me knows I have a slight obsession with jewelry. So… could it be my whole jewelry box? That’s probably cheating, I know ;) But I really hold dear to my heart the pieces of jewelry that I have gotten as gifts. I think that each piece has a story to tell; whether its my mom’s charm bracelet she passed down to me, or the cross necklace from Turkey that my dad gave me for my 18th birthday, each piece has a sentimental value that goes well beyond its monetary value.

WUYW: Who or what is currently influencing your style the most?

There are constant sources of media that definitely influence my style. Magazines, Pinterest, blogs, Tumblr, working in retail, people watching, etc. The list goes on, and on, and on.

WUYW: If you could trade closets with anyone, who would it be with?

Olivia Palermo! She consistently looks effortless in everything she wears. She always looks so fresh and chic, there is no doubt her wardbrobe is lustworthy.

A very big thank you to Miss Shelby Skaggs of Glitter + Gingham.

Fashion Illustrator: Laura LeBlanc

Back in January, I alluded to some extremely exciting news (see here).  I was fortunate enough to have the amazing opportunity to work with Laura LeBlanc, an AMAZING digital illustrator.  Currently, Laura is a MFA Computer Art student at the School of Visual Arts in NYC.

She was sweet enough to redesign my blog header, create original business cards, and even my own custom 8 x 10 fashion illustration!  Make sure you check out her Etsy shop here. Her prices are phenomenal, and her work is truly exquisite.

Check out some of her other amazing illustrations!
