blogger spotlight: life unsweetened

This week's Blogger Spotlight features the charming Rachel of Life Unsweetened. A native New Yorker with some seriously killer style and the coveted ability to look like a knock out in any hair color! Her blog is the perfect place to find style inspirations, beauty product reviews, and even blogging tips!  Keep reading to gain a little insight into her personal blogging style and make sure you stop by her blog afterwards.

WUYW: Of all of your posts, which outfit or feature has been your absolute favorite thus far?

Out of all my outfit posts, I think I liked the one with my squirrel blouse the most.

WUYW: Why would you consider this your best post to date?

It was kind of a random purchase and something I thought people would hate or think was childish, but I received a lot of nice comments and someone even purchased the shirt from my blog post! I wouldn't say it's my best post in general, but in terms of outfit posts I liked that one the most.

WUYW: How/why/when did you decide to start a fashion blog?

I've always been a writer and enjoyed fashion, so I finally put the two together as a New Year's Resolution in January 2012. I had been a long-time readers of fashion and lifestyle blogs, so I figured it was time for me to share my ideas and inspirations with others.

WUYW:  What was your biggest hesitation regarding starting a blog, and how did you overcome that hesitation?

I think the hardest part was just getting it started. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist, so I immediately claimed a domain name and started teaching myself HTML and, which isn't easy to start off on. I work full-time and have a social life, so managing my time was a big deal, too. Then of course, like most females in their 20's, was worried what people would think of me and what I wore/wrote about, but I got over that eventually.

WUYW: What would be your biggest piece of advice for others who are just starting a blog?

I'd say take your time with it. You can't start a blog and expect to get thousands of hits the first few months. Keep working hard, writing frequently, coming up with new ideas, commenting on other blogs, etc. and soon you'll start to see some traffic. Blogging should be about having fun, not the money or a popularity contest. I think that's something many new bloggers don't  understand.

WUYW:  What do you do for a living?

I currently work as a Copywriter and Online Marketing Specialist for a small digital marketing company. I write the copy for my client's websites, blogs and print catalogs. I also write press releases, manage their social media accounts, and other SEO tasks. Our clients range from clothing retailers to small businesses.

WUYW: How would you describe your style?

This is such a hard question! I always like to ask other people this and see what they say. Overall, I'd say my style is classic and romantic. I love classic pieces like blouses and cardigans, but I'm a huge fan of ruffles and feminine silhouettes, so that's where the romantic part comes in.

WUYW:  If you could only save one item from your closet (heaven forbid), what item would it be?

I know this sounds weird, but probably my prom dress. It's this beautiful lime-green dress with tons of sequins and sparkles and a lot of tulle at the bottom. I wore it the year I won prom queen and it has a lot of meaning to me. I honestly wish I could dye it white and wear it to my wedding!

WUYW: Who or what is currently influencing your style the most?

I've been taking a lot more fashion risks  lately, but I can't really attribute it to one person or thing. I think having a fashion blog and doing outfit posts is always motivation for putting together new outfits and wearing them with confidence. My readers leave the sweetest comments ever and help my confidence a lot in terms of what I can pull off wearing.

WUYW: If you could trade closets with anyone, who would it be with?

I adore Lauren Conrad's style. I know every girl loves her, but she's just so easy to relate to that it's hard not to! She always looks so put-together and I think a lot of things she wears are similar to my style. I also love Olivia Palermo and Lana Del Rey's style as well.
